BAY umbellularia californica
Another Herb that is used in our Hemp-EaZe formula is California Bay, which is different from Bay Laurel. These aromatic trees emit a strong smell resembling camphor. Way back in the day, Indians and early settlers to this gold country would use this herb for expelling mosquitoes and fleas. They also favored using the leaves in hot baths to treat rheumatism, and as pain relief from headaches. We wild-collect the leaves in Spring time.At one time these trees densely populated most of the deep water canyon ways of the state. But too many people have been removing them to the point that only 1/4 of the trees population exists today, threatening their extinction. We are hoping through education and example that more people will understand California Bays medicinal significance and let them survive.
