Let’s talk about Sage, one of the essential ingredients in Hemp-EaZe™. Sage has always been another first choice for me, because it’s a powerful herb for soothing sore muscles and strengthening them.
Sage has one of the longest histories of use of any medicinal herb. Ancient Egyptians used it as a fertility drug (Bown, 1995).
In the first century C.E. Greek physician Dioscorides reported that the aqueous decoction of sage stopped bleeding of wounds and cleaned ulcers and sores.
Sage has been used in China as far back as 206 B.C., to increase physical strength, mental equanimity and alertness, and body heat.
Native Americans used sage to clean their teeth and gums as well as healing skin sores.
Sage’s modern botanical genus Salvia was named by Russian botanist Alexander von Bunge in 1833. Salvia has roots in the Latin word salvere, meaning “to save” or “to cure”
Sage is cleansing – has astringent, antiseptic, antispasmodic, antidiaphoretic, antimicrobial, carminative, anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and even memory enhancing properties. Antioxidant terpenes have been isolated in sage, which can destroy harmful free radical compounds. It’s anti-spasmodic action which reduces tension in sore muscles.
Sage also contains rosmarinic acid, a phenolic acid, which is known to be strongly anti-inflammatory helping to shrink and soothe inflamed tissues. Flavanoid and tannin components also contribute to sage’s medicinal properties.
Sage exhibits antifungal/anti-yeast activity against Candida albicans. In cell culture sage has also shown antiviral activity against influenza virus A2 and Herpes simplex virus II. applied directly to the skin for cold sores; gum disease (gingivitis); sore mouth, throat or tongue; and swollen, painful nasal passages.
Wound dressing: Topically sage has been used to treat bruises, cuts, sores, ulcers, especially those slow-to-heal. Sage’s antiseptic properties help to stop bleeding and encourage healing.
Itch relief: Sage has been used to soothe the swelling and unbearable itching accompanying insect bites or minor allergic reactions. Sage may also be useful in eczema, psoriasis, and poison oak/ivy.
Sunburn: reduce the development of skin redness.
Sage is an essential ingredient in our Hemp-EaZe™ Formula and also a leading ingredient in our Lip Balm.
